Liverpool have reportedly joined the race to sign Udinese midfielder Rodrigo De Paul, who is also a target for Premier League rivals Leeds United.

According to a report by The Sun, Liverpool have registered their interest in Udinese playmaker Rodrigo De Paul. The Argentine international is also the subject of interest from Premier League rivals Leeds United, while Inter Milan are also eager to secure his services.

Rodrigo De Paul joined Udinese from Valencia in the summer of 2016 and has since seen his career take off. A mainstay in midfield for Le Zebrette over the past four-and-a-half years or so, the 26-year-old is now widely regarded as one of the best players on show in all of Serie A.

During his time at Stadio Friullihe has been so impressive that he has established himself within the Argentina national side as well. The 2020/21 season has been a solid one so far for De Paul, who has 3 goals and as many assists in 17 appearances across all competitions. His progress has caught the attention of some of the biggest clubs in Europe, including Liverpool.

Liverpool have one of the most formidable squads in all of Europe, one which was bolstered further by the addition of Thiago Alcantara in the summer transfer window. However, the fact that the future of Georginio Wijnaldum is as uncertain as it has ever been means that the Reds need to be a little proactive in scouring for replacement options.

With Naby Keita’s fitness woes making him a frustrating figure, it is even more imperative for the Premier League champions to search the market for a possible midfield reinforcement, despite the advent of Curtis Jones. To that end, De Paul is a viable target for Liverpool, even though he is not really a like-for-like replacement for Wijnaldum.

However, the tinge of creativity that De Paul would add from midfield while also being an option in the attack means that he could potentially add some dynamism in Liverpool’s gameplay. Apart from De Paul, Jadon Sancho is also an option considered by the Merseyside club, although he will be stationed higher up the pitch.

Liverpool, though, are facing stiff competition from Leeds United, who have been monitoring him since the summer transfer window. In addition, Inter Milan are also keeping tabs on his situation, and a summer move could well be in the offing. Having said that, as far as Liverpool are concerned, they have registered their interest in De Paul and it remains to be seen if it materialises into a move anytime soon.
