Forgotten Chelsea midfielder Danny Drinkwater is reportedly set to seal a loan move to Turkish outfit Kasimpasa till the end of the season.
According to a report from beIN Sports Turkiye on Twitter, Chelsea outcast Danny Drinkwater will be on the move this month as the midfielder is close to completing a loan move to Turkish club Kasimpasa.
The 30-year-old joined Chelsea in the summer of 2017 from Leicester City, as the Blues looked to recreate the partnership of N’Golo Kante and Drinkwater that had led the Foxes to a shock Premier League title triumph in the 2015/16 campaign.
However, the former Manchester United academy man struggled to carve out a place for himself at Stamford Bridge. Drinkwater made just 23 appearances for Chelsea in his first two years at the club, with a 30-minute cameo against Manchester City in the Community Shield clash in August 2018 being his last game in the Blues’ colours.
At the onset of the 2019/20 campaign, Drinkwater sealed a loan move to Burnley, which had to be cut short in January after he played just two times in the first half of the season. He later joined Aston Villa in the winter window but had another troubled stint, which saw him make just four appearances and headbutt a teammate.
Back at Chelsea in June last year, Drinkwater has been training with the Under-23s and has not been involved with Frank Lampard’s first-team. The 30-year-old has played four times for the reserves this term and was most recently in news for getting sent off after kicking out Tottenham teenager Alfie Devine in a Premier League 2 clash.
After having had a nightmare of a spell, Drinkwater seems set for another loan exit from Chelsea this month, this time to Turkish outfit Kasimpasa, as per the aforementioned report. It is claimed that the deal is in advanced stages with the midfielder set to travel to Turkey to sign a contract soon.
A vital cog in Leicester’s title success, Drinkwater’s career has been on a swift decline since. It will be interesting to see if the midfielder is able to get things back on track in Turkey. With his contract with Chelsea expiring in 2022, a good showing in the second half of the season, could help him seal a permanent move elsewhere in the summer.
