Manchester United defender Marcos Rojo is closing in on a return to his homeland Argentina, with Boca Juniors reportedly set to welcome him back.

Manchester United defender Marcos Rojo, whose injury-prone pathway has been a concerning sight for the club for quite an amount of time, is on the radar of Boca Juniors. The Argentine giants have agreed to sign him on a three-year deal, as reported by Mundo Albiceleste.

On 19th August 2014, an agreement was formed by both Sporting Lisbon and Manchester United for Marcos Rojo. Rojo seemed like a promising addition to the squad but since then it has been quite a rollercoaster for the thirty-year-old Argentine defender.

In 2018, Rojo did sign a fresh contract with the Red Devils that would keep him at the club until June 2021, with the option to extend for a further year. But during this tenure, his scorched injury saga took him into a corrosive dimension. In fact, since Ole Gunner Solskjaer’s appointment, he made only one Premier League start in 2019/20, playing merely nine fixtures in all competitions before being loaned out.

The Argentine centre-back was loaned to his boyhood Estudiantes de La Plata in January, 2020 for the remainder of the season; but still, he wasn’t able to establish himself. Under bizarre circumstances, Rojo hasn’t been able to find his feet properly and is desperately seeking redemption to retain his position.

The interest of Boca Juniors has arisen for a particular reason. The Latin American giants have been seeking an experienced defender throughout this season. Meanwhile, fellow Premier League clubs Newcastle United and Sheffield United had also shown interest in Rojo because of his ability to play as left-back as well.

Rojo would be happy to have finally been able to secure a move away from Manchester United, having been frozen out of the first-team setup under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. The Argentine veteran had previously stated his desire to move back to his homeland and his deal with Boca Juniors will facilitate the same while ensuring he continues to play at a high competitive level.
