Dean Henderson is expected to replace David de Gea in goal when Manchester United take on Manchester City in the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup.

Manchester United will be aiming to make it through to the finals of the Carabao Cup when they lock horns with neighbours Manchester City in the semi-finals on Wednesday night. And manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has no fresh injury concerns heading into the game.

Manchester United will once again be without just Edinson Cavani, with his three-game ban still in effect. Along with him, Phil Jones is an injury-enforced absentee for the Red Devils, Solskjaer confirmed in his pre-match press conference.

“We’re disappointed not having Edinson involved. But he’s probably the only one not [available] and, of course, Phil Jones has been out for a long time. They’re the only two not available for selection, which is a good position to be in,” the Norwegian said.

There are unlikely to be many changes made to the starting XI that took the field against Aston Villa in the Premier League on Friday night. But, a significant alteration in goal is expected, with Dean Henderson, who has been the cup goalkeeper for Manchester United, replacing the first-choice custodian David de Gea on Wednesday.

No other changes are likely to be made apart from that, meaning the four-man backline is expected to remain intact. Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Luke Shaw ought to slot in as the full-backs while Manchester United captain Harry Maguire should pair up with the impressive Eric Bailly at the centre.

The four-man midfield unit should also remain untouched, with Scott McTominay and Fred taking over the defensive responsibilities, while the creative onus will fall on the duo of Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes. That would mean new signing Donny van de Beek, who has received regular game time in the Carabao Cup, misses out against Manchester City.

With Cavani still unavailable, Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial will be the two forwards for Manchester United once again. Mason Greenwood will be an option for manager Solskjaer from the bench against the Cityzens.

Manchester United Predicted XI: Henderson; Wan-Bissaka, Bailly, Maguire, Shaw; Fred; McTominay, Pogba; Fernandes; Rashford, Martial
