Liverpool could once again rival Manchester United in pursuit of Jadon Sancho, with the Reds reportedly keeping a close eye on the Borussia Dortmund star.

According to Que Golazo podcast, as relayed by Daily Mirror, Manchester United are set to face fresh competition from Liverpool in pursuit of Jadon Sancho. The English champions are closely monitoring the progress of the Borussia Dortmund sensation, who is widely expected to leave the Signal Iduna Park next summer.

Sancho was initially linked with a summer switch Old Trafford, but Manchester United were priced out of a move by the Bundesliga giants, who were adamant on keeping hold of the youngster. However, they might be willing to settle for a reasonable bid, especially following a disastrous start to the campaign that saw head coach Lucien Favre face the axe.

Liverpool’s recent emergence in the Sancho battle, however, does not bode well for Manchester United. Earlier this year, German news outlet Kicker had claimed that the Englishman had preferred a move to Anfield since he is more likely to win silverware at the Merseyside club.

The Reds were even keen on attaining the services of the Dortmund star in the summer, though they were nowhere near as desperate as Manchester United. The Red Devils, in fact, even missed out on their preferred alternative for Sancho in Ousmane Dembele, so it appears they have now shifted their attention back to the ex-Manchester City winger.

However, it is fair to point out that Sancho has suffered a slight decline in his performances this season. The return of Marco Reus has clashed with the youngster’s inability to provide the productivity in front of goal. In fact, he is yet to score in the Bundesliga despite starting 11 out of the 13 matches.

Sancho’s sharp decrease in form raises questions on whether or not he will manage to succeed in the physically astute nature of the Premier League. But that has not deterred Liverpool or Manchester United from eyeing a move, with the Reds, in particular, looking to add more attacking reinforcements into their ranks, in case they do have to offload Mohamed Salah next summer.

The Egyptian international became a subject of a major transfer discussion earlier this season, especially following Mohamed Aboutrika’s bizarre claims. Although the Reds are unlikely to offload Salah, failing to defend the Premier League title or bowing out of the Champions League could force the winger to reconsider his options, ultimately accentuating the need for someone like Sancho.
