Barcelona captain and talisman Lionel Messi could reportedly reunite with former teammate Luis Suarez at MLS outfit Inter Miami in 2022.

According to a report from Catalunya Radio, Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi could be set to resume his partnership with ex-teammate Luis Suarez in the Major League Soccer in 2022, at David Beckham’s Inter Miami.

Suarez and Messi played together at Barcelona for six years after the former arrived at the club from Liverpool in 2014. Together, the duo forged a lethal partnership that has brought plenty of success to Camp Nou over the years.

However, the partnership was broken this past summer when Barcelona let Suarez leave the club to join Atletico Madrid. Messi had slammed his club over the treatment of the Uruguayan international earlier this year, although, in a recent interview, the 33-year-old claimed that his exit wasn’t the reason why he pushed to leave Barcelona earlier this summer.

In the same interview, the Barcelona skipper also hinted that he would be open to a potential switch to MLS in the future. “I would like to play in the USA someday, it’s always been one of my dreams,” the 33-year-old had said.

Following that, the rumour mill has been on overdrive, with reports claiming that Beckham wants to bring Messi to his franchise and would also sign Suarez in order to convince the Argentine to make the switch.

Messi’s contract with Barcelona expires at the end of the ongoing campaign, meaning clubs from abroad will be able to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with him starting in January. The 33-year-old, having come so close to leaving this past summer, has claimed that he is yet to decide whether he would sign an extension with the Blaugrana or move on.

But, as per the report, the MLS option could appeal to the little magician from Argentina, even more so if there is the possibility of linking up with Suarez once again. The Uruguayan, however, is contracted with Atletico Madrid till the summer of 2022 and any potential transfer to the United States might have to wait until then.

Inter Miami already have Messi’s compatriot Gonzalo Higuain on their books. And it will be interesting to see whether Beckham & co. are able to pull off a coup to sign the Barcelona skipper and his ex-teammate Suarez in the future.
