PSG are reportedly looking to usurp Barcelona in the race to secure the services of Memphis Depay, with a bid in the works.

According to a report by Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo, PSG are aiming to steal a march on Barcelona in pursuit of Memphis Depay. With the Dutchman likely to available for as little as €5 million, Les Parisiens could raid Lyon for their captain, who is a priority target for the Blaugrana.

Depay joined Lyon from Manchester United in January 2017 and has since resurrected his career in fine fashion. Now regarded as one of the best attacking players in Europe, the 26-year-old Dutch international has been a pivotal player for both club and country for a couple of years now.

Depay has made over 150 appearances for Lyon over what has been a near-four-year stint, with 62 goals and 47 assists to show for his efforts. However, with his contract with Les Gones set to run out at the end of the season, suitors have been emerging for his services since the summer. Barcelona have been keen on snapping Depay up and have been joined by PSG in the race to sign him.

The interest from Barcelona is understandable, considering Martin Braithwaite is the only striker at the disposal of Ronald Koeman. With Koeman having managed to bring the best out of Depay during his time as the head coach of the Dutch national side, it is not hard to see why he would want the 26-year-old to lead the line for Barcelona as well.

As for PSG, with Mauro Icardi struggling to nail down a spot in the side, Depay could easily come in and be the first-choice striker. With that in mind, it looks like the French champions, who are set for a new phase following the sacking of Thomas Tuchel, could make a move for the Dutchman, who could be available for as little as €5 million in January.

While the interest from PSG does make some sense, Barcelona are set to prioritise a move for the player this winter, with his meagre valuation making him all the more appealing. However, with a bid in the works from the Ligue 1 giants, Barcelona will need to act fast if they are to sign Depay, and it remains to be seen if they follow up with an offer next month.
