Curtis Jones and Mohamed Salah are set to return to the starting eleven when Liverpool face West Bromwich Albion on Sunday.
Liverpool will have the opportunity to extend their lead at the top to six points when they lock horns with West Bromwich Albion at Anfield on Sunday.
The Reds have had a solid eight-day break heading into this game, giving Jurgen Klopp the privilege of having most of his star players fit. It has also helped James Milner and Xherdan Shaqiri to return in contention for first-team action, as confirmed by the coach himself during the pre-match press conference.
“Shaq trained really good and Millie, yesterday full session, today then a little bit adapted. It is a new situation for us; we have still two more training days until we have to make decisions. It looks good, but I don’t know,” Klopp told the media on Thursday, suggesting that both the players could make substitute appearances this weekend.
As far as the first-team is concerned, however, we are expecting at least two changes from the side that secured a thumping 7-0 win over Crystal Palace. Mohamed Salah, in particular, almost destined to replace Takumi Minamino on the flanks as he looks forward to renewing his attacking partnership with Sadio Mane and the in-form Roberto Firmino.
Another change could occur in midfield, where Naby Keita may have to make way for Curtis Jones. Klopp still has Thiago out injured so it remains unlikely that the German would want to take risks, especially with players like Keita and Milner who have returned from their respective injuries.
However, the Liverpool manager did provide positive news regarding Thiago on Thursday. asserting that the former Bayern Munich midfielder has made his “first steps back towards team training”.
“He is not involved in the full session but makes good steps and after, unfortunately, the long time he is out now, we cannot and will not rush it. He will not be involved, he has to first be in full training sessions and then we start thinking about it. He is not too far away, I hope,” explained Klopp.
Meanwhile, we are not expecting any changes in the defensive unit, especially given the fact Liverpool are still missing out on the services of Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez. It essentially means that Fabinho is in line to make his 100th appearance for the Reds, lining up alongside Joel Matip at the heart of the four-man backline.
They should receive additional support from the two full-backs in Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andrew Robertson, with Alisson Becker also retaining his place in between the sticks.
