Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is expected to ring in the changes when Manchester United face in-form Everton in the Carabao Cup quarterfinal on Wednesday.

Manchester United will be hoping to advance through to the last four of the Carabao Cup when they lock horns with Everton at the Goodison Park on Wednesday.

Although the League Cup serves as an excellent opportunity for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, the Manchester United manager has confirmed that he will ring in the changes during the pre-match press conference.

“I’m not going to give you the team!” the Manchester United boss said before continuing, “But we will make a few changes. There have been a few players playing in the Carabao Cup earlier in the season and some will need a rest after the Leeds game. So it will be a fresh team,” said Solskjaer when asked about potential changes this midweek.

It bodes well for fringe players like Dean Henderson, Donny van de Beek and Timothy Fosu-Mensah, all of whom are expected to start against Everton. The latter, in particular, will be filling in at right-back for Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who has been ruled out due to a knock picked up against Leeds United.

There could be further changes in defence, with Alex Telles coming in for Luke Shaw while Axel Tuanzebe should replace Victor Lindelof at the heart of the Manchester United defence, where he will be partnered by captain Harry Maguire.

In midfield, Solskjaer has confirmed that Scott McTominay will be unavailable for this fixture after picking up a groin problem against Leeds United. His absence should pave the way for Nemanja Matic and Paul Pogba to operate in the double pivot, with Fred likely to get a breather ahead of the important Boxing Day clash against Leicester City.

Moving forward, Bruno Fernandes is destined to get a rest as well, thus allowing Donny van de Beek to earn a rare start on Wednesday. The Dutchman will be hoping to make an impression against the in-form Everton side as he hopes to earn a more prominent role in the first-team, especially with Pogba facing an uncertain future at Old Trafford.

Solskjaer, however, could also consider Jesse Lingard, who has been drafted back into the squad. The Englishman may feature as a second-half substitute, though he does face strong competition from fellow playmaker Juan Mata.

Mason Greenwood, meanwhile, looks likely to come back into the starting eleven, replacing Daniel James on the right flank, while Marcus Rashford might continue on the opposite flank as these two attackers look to provide the supply for the central striker, Edinson Cavani, who will come in to give Anthony Martial some breather.

Manchester United Predicted XI: Henderson; Fosu-Mensah, Tuanzebe, Maguire, Telles; Matic, Pogba; Greenwood, van de Beek, Rashford; Cavani
