AC Milan have reportedly set their sights on Real Madrid youngster Luka Jovic, as a potential alternative for the injured Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

According to a report from AS, AC Milan are not willing to sit back and see out their current injury crisis that sees Zlatan Ibrahimovic, among many others sidelined through a problem in the thigh muscle. In fact, the Serie A leaders are eyeing a move for Real Madrid outcast Luka Jovic in the upcoming January transfer window.

Regarded as a huge failure at Real Madrid, Milan are interested in signing the young striker on a short-term loan deal, with an option to make the move permanent next summer. The player was even linked with the Rossonerin the summer, though a move did not materialise.

This time, however, Stefano Pioli is keen on acquiring the services of the ex-Eintracht Frankfurt star, who is being identified as a potential long-term replacement for Ibrahimovic.

Although the 39-year-old veteran has been scoring goals for fun in Serie A this season, there have been clear signs of deterioration, especially in regards to his fitness. Unfortunately for Milan, they do lack the services of a reliable long-term alternative, which is why the Rossoneri have struggled recently, in the absence of their star forward.

Ante Rebic, in particular, has been unfortunate with injuries while the ex-Eintracht star also prefers playing in a wider role. The same can be said for Rafael Leao, who has lacked the consistency in his game. The Portuguese forward is also not a genuine goalscoring centre-forward, thus making Jovic a viable target for Milan.

A product of the Red Star youth academy, Jovic is regarded as a goal poacher. He knows when to position himself at the high time and has a knack for finding the back of the net. He is also a technically gifted forward, with his skills allowing him to link-up with teammates and navigate through the defence using clever one-twos.

For Milan, Jovic could also be a fairly gettable target as the Serb has been linked with a move away from Santiago Bernabeu in the past. His struggles at Real Madrid could further convince Zinedine Zidane to offload him temporarily in January and the Spanish champions could be more than willing to get rid of his permanently, should his value increase in Serie A.

Although there is no guarantee that the 22-year-old will find his lost touch in the Italian top-flight, at Milan, he will certainly have the atmosphere as well as the chances to revive his career during the second half of the campaign, while also getting away from the frustrating environs of Real Madrid.
