Liverpool striker Divock Origi has emerged as a January target for Wolves while the Reds have no plans to recall Harvey Elliott from his loan spell at Blackburn Rovers.

According to a report from The Athletic, Liverpool forward Divock Origi could be on the move in the January transfer window amidst interest from fellow Premier League outfit Wolves.

The Belgian international has been with Liverpool since 2015, having arrived in a £10 million move for LOSC Lille. However, he hasn’t been able to establish himself as a regular at Anfield.

After a loan stint away at VfL Wolfsburg in the 2017/18 campaign, Origi has stayed at the club and contributed with some important goals in their UEFA Champions League and Premier League triumphs in the past couple of seasons. This earned the 25-year-old a new contract at Liverpool, but that has not improved his game-time at the club.

So far this season, the forward has featured just seven times in all competitions, scoring one goal and assisting another. The 25-year-old has played just seven minutes of Premier League football so far and is believed to be open to a January transfer in order to earn a spot in the Belgium squad for the summer’s European Championships.

And, Wolves could be ready to offer Origi a way out next month. The Midlands’ outfit are on the lookout for a new striker after star man Raul Jimenez picked up a horrific head injury which has seen him get ruled out for an elongated period, leaving Nuno Espirito Santo with teenager Fabio Silva as the only natural striker at his disposal.

At this point of time, Wolves have identified a number of strikers to bolster their ranks in January, with Origi being one among them. The Belgian international fits the profile of players that the Black Country outfit are looking for, with his age, physical presence and the versatility he offers at the top.

While a move for Origi is being considered, there has been no contact between the two clubs at this point. Wolves are also undecided on whether they would like a flat loan deal or bring a player on a temporary basis with an option to buy. A permanent move in January looks a tad unlikely with finances being tight, the report claims.

A move for Origi could prove to be a win-win situation for all parties involved. With the transfer window set to open in just over a week, it will be interesting to see if the Belgian will be on the move.

Liverpool not looking to recall Harvey Elliott from Blackburn Rovers loan

According to a report from the Liverpool Echo, contrary to speculations, Liverpool have absolutely no intentions to cut short youngster Harvey Elliott’s loan spell at Blackburn Rovers and recall him to the club next month.

The 17-year-old sensation arrived at Liverpool last year from the Fulham youth setup and managed to get some game-time at the first-team level, making nine appearances for Jurgen Klopp’s side, in which he registered a solitary assist.

In order to ensure his development doesn’t stall, the Merseysiders loaned him out to EFL Championship side Blackburn Rovers in October. Since joining them, Elliott has impressed quite a lot, racking up four goals and four assists in 14 league appearances.

Elliott’s impressive form in the second division, coupled with summer signing Diogo Jota’s injury, which has sidelined him for a couple of months, had sparked talks of Liverpool bringing the teenage forward back to the club come January.

Blackburn manager Tony Mowbray had highlighted in a recent interview that Elliott has developed into a key player for the team and had expressed concerns that Liverpool might recall him early.

“Jurgen might be sitting there thinking ‘what’s he doing out on loan? Let’s get him back’. He’s an important player for us. I know he’s enjoying his football. I hope he can stay. The contract suggests he’s going to stay for the rest of the season,” Mowbray had said.

However, as per the aforementioned report, that is not the case, as the Reds are happy to let the youngster develop at Blackburn. This will come as music to the ears of Mowbray and the Blackburn Rovers’ supporters.
