RB Leipzig are on the verge of securing the services of Dominik Szoboszlai, beating Arsenal in the pursuit of the RB Salzburg attacker.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Dominik Szoboszlai is set to become the latest player to move from RB Salzburg to RB Leipzig, much to Arsenal’s detriment as the Gunners were keen on his services, along with Serie A league leaders AC Milan.

But as per, Max Bielefeld of Sky Sports, Szoboszlai has his heart set on a move to the Bundesliga, with Leipzig also confident of sealing the deal. There are few necessary details missing but both the sides hope to complete the deal before Christmas, thus serving as a major blow for Arsenal.

Szoboszlai, following his likely move to Germany, will join the likes of Marcel Sabitzer, Dayot Upamecano, Naby Keita in the list of players who have moved from RB Salzburg to RB Leipzig since their promotion to the Bundesliga back in 2016. He will also be reunited with former Salzburg teammates in Hwang Hee-chan and Amadou Haidara, both of who have also switched to east Germany in recent years.

For Leipzig, the addition of the Hungarian international should provide even more attacking depth for Julian Nagelsman, who already has the likes of Dani Olmo, Christopher Nkunku, Justin Kluivert and Emil Forsberg at his disposal.

The same, unfortunately, cannot be said for Arsenal, who have emerged as one of the least inventive teams in the Premier League this season. The Gunners have netted only ten goals so far, with only the bottom three clubs managing to score fewer.

It doesn’t bode well for Mikel Arteta, whose decision to ostracise Mesut Ozil, combined with the underwhelming performances from Willian and Pepe have seen his side dawdling on the wrong end of the league table.

The potential acquisition of a talented playmaker like Szobozlai, in that regard, could have been useful for the north London giants. Unlike Ozil, the Salzburg star is a dynamic and direct attacker, whose ability to press the opposition and finding key passes in the final third could have made him a tailor-made fit for Arteta’s style of play.

It would have made Arsenal much more deadly on the counter and better utilise the pace of players like Pepe and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who has been in a barren run of form this season.

But, with Szobozlai set to be on his way to RB Leipzig this winter, the Gunners will now have to shift their attention to other alternatives, in their bid to find a replacement for Ozil. The German, in turn, has recently been linked with a shock move to Juventus.
