Chelsea have reportedly offered David Alaba a three-year deal in an attempt to swoop him away from Bayern Munich next summer.

According to Italian journalist Nicolo Schira, Chelsea have tabled a contract offer to David Alaba. The Blues have offered the Austrian international a three-year deal, with PSG also lodging an offer with similar terms. However, the Bayern Munich defender wants a four-year contract, with annual wages of €15 million.

Alaba joined Bayern Munich from Austria Wien in the summer of 2008 and has since become a key figure for the German heavyweights. Over the past decade or so, the 28-year-old has been a mainstay in defence for Die Roten, playing in an integral role in their unprecedented success.

Since joining Bayern Munich, Alaba has gone on to feature 400 times across all competitions, while also chipping in with 32 goals and 49 assists. His exploits have invariably attracted a number of top clubs across Europe over the years, with Chelsea among those interested in signing him, especially with the player, in the final year of his current deal, unlikely to sign a renewal with Bayern.

The continued interest from Chelsea comes as a bit of a surprise, considering they signed a left-back in Ben Chilwell this past summer. While the futures of Marcos Alonso and Emerson Palmieri remain uncertain, it would be prudent for the Blues to sign a player who is more suited to be backup than someone like Alaba, who will command high wages.

Alaba’s qualities, though, could also be utilised at the heart of the Chelsea defence, where Thiago Silva may have made a huge impact but is still only a short-term solution. Add to it the fact that the likes of Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen face uncertain futures as well and perhaps, Alaba could be deployed centrally.

Either way, it looks like Chelsea are set to make a move for Alaba, with talks scheduled between the west Londoners and his agent Pini Zahavi. To that end, the Premier League heavyweights have made an offer for a three-year contract to the Austrian international.

Chelsea, though, are facing stiff competition from PSG as well as Juventus, while several other clubs have reportedly expressed an interest as well. Like the Blues, Chelsea have also table a three-year deal to Alaba, although his demands are a little different.

According to Nicolo Schira, Alaba wants a four-year deal with annual wages worth €15 million. What now remains to be seen is if Chelsea or any other suitors are willing to agree to his demands or negotiate different terms with Zahavi and Alaba. For now, it looks like Chelsea might be seriously interested in signing the Bayern Munich contract rebel.
