Edinson Cavani will be gunning to start against his former club as Manchester United host PSG on Wednesday in a Champions League Group H clash.

Manchester United will have their work cut out as they hope to continue their newfound form when they host PSG on Wednesday. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has some tough decisions to make regarding the starting eleven, with injuries and fitness issues taking a toll on the squad.

David de Gea was forced to go off during half-time against Southampton over the weekend and while he is back in training, the Spaniard is unlikely to be risked. This means a rare start for Dean Henderson, who impressed after coming on for de Gea against Southampton.

In defence, a three-man backline like last time out against PSG seems unrealistic, with Axel Tuanzebe out suspended. Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof are all set to start at the back. The left-back slot should go to Alex Telles, with Ole confirming in his pre-match conference that Luke Shaw is now back but is unlikely to be considered for selection against PSG, while also reflecting on de Gea’s injury.

“David trained well today, as did the rest of the group. It was a good session. Luke is probably the biggest doubt. Luke isn’t too far away so let’s see what we do with him for tomorrow.”

Scott McTominay returns and should slot straight into the starting eleven alongside Fred, who has turned a new leaf and become a key cog in United’s midfield. Donny van de Beek’s industrious play as the third midfielder should be enough to get the nod against PSG, especially with Matic needing rest and Pogba yet to be fully fit.

In attack, Anthony Martial missed the Southampton game and did not really train much. Ole has iterated that the Frenchman is in contention to start. But, Edinson Cavani’s winning performance from the bench against Southampton should be enough to earn him a start against his former club on Wednesday.

Bruno Fernandes will continue to reprise his role in the hole, with Marcus Rashford acting as the second striker, with Ole favouring this 4-3-1-2 shape a lot in recent times.

Predicted Manchester United Starting XI: Henderson; Wan-Bissaka, Maguire, Lindelof, Telles; McTominay, Fred, van de Beek; Fernandes; Cavani, Rashford
