Manchester United have reportedly set their sights on RB Leipzig star Marcel Sabitzer, who is also a target for Bayern Munich.

According to footballer turned reputed journalist Jan Aage Fjortoft, Manchester United are closely following Marcel Sabitzer over a possible move in the future. The 26-year-old RB Leipzig midfielder is also the subject of interest from Bayern Munich.

Sabitzer joined RB Leipzig in the summer of 2014 and was immediately sent out on loan to sister club Red Bull Salzburg for the 2014/15 season. Upon returning to the Red Bull Arena, the Austrian international has not looked back, becoming a key figure for the Bundesliga outfit.

Having completed over half-a-decade at RB Leipzig, Sabitzer is closing in on his 200th appearance for the club, with a solid record of 45 goals and 36 assists to show for his efforts. Having also been promoted to the role of being the club captain, it has been a stunning rise for the 26-year-old. His progress has duly been noted, with Manchester United paying close attention to his growth.

Sabitzer does appear to be a viable target for Manchester United and could be used by the Red Devils in one of two ways. Capable of playing through the middle or on the right-wing, Sabitzer could solve a couple of issues for the Premier League heavyweights.

In midfield, Sabitzer could be a long-term replacement for Paul Pogba, whose future at Manchester United is highly uncertain. With Nemanja Matic on the wrong side of 30, it looks like United might be forced to enter the transfer market sometime in the future, unless James Garner is inculcated within the first-team setup, considering they already have Donny van de Beek in the squad.

The right wing issue, though, is one to ponder upon. Manchester United have attempted and failed to sign Jadon Sancho for the problem area, while Ansu Fati was linked with a shock move as well. Sabitzer, too, could be a viable option for the position, and it looks like Manchester United are “following him closely” as per Jan Aage Fjortoft.

It has also been suggested that Bayern Munich are monitoring the 26-year-old, although there are no mentions over whether either club is planning a move just yet. For now, though, it looks like Sabitzer is on Manchester United’s radar and it will be interesting to see if they launch the offensive for him anytime soon.
