Real Madrid have reportedly set their sights on Dominik Szoboszlai, who is also a target for Arsenal among other European giants.

According to a report by Spanish publication AS, Dominik Szoboszlai has emerged on the radar of Real Madrid. The Spanish heavyweights have been monitoring the 20-year-old Red Bull Salzburg midfielder, who is also the subject of interest from Arsenal, RB Leipzig and AC Milan.

Szoboszlai has the world at his feet following a remarkable 12-month period that has seen him starting to become a household name. The Hungarian international has done well to emerge out of the shadows of Erling Haaland at Red Bull Salzburg this year and has started the current season on a strong note as well, with 5 goals and 9 assists in just 13 appearances across all competitions.

Most recently, Szoboszlai was in the news after sealing Hungary’s place in next year’s UEFA European Championship with an injury-time winner against Iceland this week. His exploits have invariably caught the eye of some of the biggest clubs in the continent, with Arsenal and Real Madrid among those keeping tabs on him.

Arsenal have started the 2020/21 season on a typically inconsistent note, with creativity and goals sorely lacking for them so far. To that end, Szoboszlai would be a one-stop solution, considering his prowess when stringing together passes or aiming a shot at goal. Therefore, it is no surprise that Arsenal have already held talks with his entourage over a possible move.

The likes of AC Milan and RB Leipzig have also been showing an interest in Szoboszlai and the report suggests that the duo have already made enquiries pertaining to a potential transfer. Now, though, Arsenal and the other suitors have Real Madrid for competition in pursuit of the 20-year-old.

Real Madrid had a quiet summer transfer window, having chosen not to make a signing after the advent of the coronavirus crisis coincided with their redevelopment plans for the Bernabeu. But, after making a slow start to the 2020/21 season, it is clear that their squad needs to be bolstered, both in midfield and attack.

With Luka Modric in the twilight of his career and Isco expected to be offloaded soon, Szoboszlai is a genuine candidate to reinforce Real Madrid’s creative options. While Los Blancos are showing an interest in the Hungarian midfielder, who has a €25 million release clause, Arsenal could be in the lead, considering they are already in discussions over a January move.

Having said that, the €25 million exit clause should give Real Madrid the impetus to replace Isco with Szoboszlai, if the Spanish international is offloaded this winter. Having said that, it remains to be seen if the Merengues launch the offensive for the 20-year-old, or if Arsenal or any other suitor swoop him away instead.
