Manchester United could reportedly reignite their interest in Aston Villa and England midfielder Jack Grealish in next summer’s transfer window

According to a report from the Manchester Evening News, as relayed by ESPN, Manchester United could reinvigorate their interest in Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish in the summer next year, after his explosive start to the new campaign.

Grealish, a product of the Aston Villa youth academy, has grown leaps and bounds over the past few years. The 25-year-old helped the Midlands’ outfit earn promotion to the Premier League and was extremely crucial upon their return, as they just about held on to their status a top-flight club.

Grealish ended the 2019/20 campaign with an impressive return of 10 goals and 8 assists in 41 matches in all competitions. And the 25-year-old has started off the new season in a similarly promising manner, already racking up five goals and five assists each in eight matches so far.

Manchester United had been heavily linked with a swoop for Grealish this past summer. The 25-year-old was reportedly at the top of manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s transfer wishlist, along with Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho. However, Aston Villa’s asking price of £80 million meant, a move never saw the light of the day.

Instead, Manchester United brought in Dutch midfield star Donny van de Beek from AFC Ajax. So, as things stand, the Red Devils’ midfield unit is quite packed, while they have options on the left flank as well, a position where Grealish has been thriving of late.

However, that could change for Manchester United before the next season comes around. Paul Pogba has endured another terrible start to the new season and questions over his future are once again starting to surface, with Real Madrid showing an interest.

In addition, veteran attacking midfielder Juan Mata is in the final year of his contract with the club. And while his resurgent form this term could mean that Manchester United do offer him a new deal, at 32, Mata is unlikely to be a regular.

Jesse Lingard, too, finds himself in the same boat as Mata, as far as his contract situation is concerned. And there is a bigger chance that the club might not look to extend the academy graduate’s stay at Old Trafford after his dreadful form over the past year or so.

Thus, a new attacking midfielder might become a necessity come next season in order to maintain quality and depth within the squad. This is where Grealish would enter the picture for Manchester United. It is claimed that the England international is viewed as a bonafide member of the starting XI by the club, rather than just a squad option.

With the club concentrating on recruiting the best homegrown talent as part of the cultural reset under Solskjaer, the 25-year-old fits the bill perfectly. However, if Grealish continues in the same vein of form for the rest of the campaign, his value is going to sky-rocket further. So, it will be interesting to see if the Red Devils do come back for the midfielder next year.

Just leave it out we all know this is a load of old rubbish, give it a rest it ain’t going to happen. Man U are a spent force there’s no way that a great player like Grealish would even consider a move. United had their chance and blew it big time it’s gone now water under the bridge so forget it and try talking sense for a change. Enough of the fake news nonsense.
