Celtic are reportedly eyeing a late swoop for Liverpool academy graduate Harry Wilson, who isn’t part of the plans under Jurgen Klopp.

According to The Scotsman, Scottish champions Celtic are plotting a cut-price move for Liverpool and Wales winger Harry Wilson on the transfer deadline day.

The 23-year-old Wilson is a product of the Reds youth academy and had been tipped for a big future at the club when he was progressing through the youth ranks. However, the Welshman hasn’t been able to carve out a place for himself in Jurgen Klopp’s side and has had four loan spells in his fledgeling career so far.

Wilson spent the last season with AFC Bournemouth and made a solid impression even though the Cherries ended up getting relegated. Back at Liverpool now, the youngster finds himself on the periphery of the first-team once again.

With Liverpool bringing in Diogo Jota from Wolves this summer, it became quite clear that Wilson wasn’t going to be a major part of Klopp’s plans at Anfield this season. Premier League side Burnley had expressed an interest in signing the Wales international, but have dropped out of the race due to the Reds’ £15 million asking price.

With no concrete offers coming in for the winger, Liverpool are now considering dropping their transfer fee to £10 million, as per The Scotsman. In fact, the reigning Premier League champions would also be open to letting Wilson on loan for another year.

And Celtic are now looking to pounce the opportunity by making a move for the Welshman. However, the report does add that signing Wilson isn’t a top priority for the Hoops as manager Neil Lennon is focusing on bringing in a player who can play at left-back and left wing-back.

Wilson, till date, has made just two senior appearances for Liverpool. One of those came last week in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup against Arsenal, where he played the entire ninety minutes and ended up missing his spot-kick during the penalty shootout, leading to the Reds’ exit from the competition.

There are likely to be quite a few exits from Anfield in the coming hours with Marko Grujic set to be on his way out, while Yasser Larouci is also expected to be on the move. With just hours left for the transfer window to slam shut, it remains to be seen if Celtic decide to act on their reported interest in Wilson or whether he ends up staying put at Anfield.
