Manchester United have reportedly beaten Tottenham to Donny van de Beek, with a €40 million fee agreed with Ajax for the Dutch international.

Reputed Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has reported that Manchester United have stolen the march on Danny van de Beek. Tottenham were also in the running for the Dutch international. But, reports are coming out that the Red Devils have agreed a deal worth €40 million with Ajax.

Romano is not the only one to give us his stamp with the ‘here we go’. ESPN journalist Rob Dawson and many more publications have reported along identical lines as regards van de Beek moving to Manchester United.  Although, Romano has iterated that medicals and remaining paperwork are set to be ironed out within the coming week.

Donny van de Beek was part of the two-man wolf-pack with Frenkie de Jong at Ajax before the latter’s move to Barcelona. The midfielder has seen a continuous rise in interest for him over the last season or so, especially with the 23-year-old being consistent in his performances and returns in Eredivisie.

The Ajax midfielder has been on the radar of Manchester United and Tottenham this summer, with reports circulating that the 23-year-old was instead waiting on an offer from Barcelona. But, the Catalans have shown no intent in signing van de Beek till now.

Manchester United are looking to strengthen their midfield, with Nemanja Matic likely to start showing signs of ageing in his performances and fitness levels. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would love an industrious midfielder like van de Beek, who also excels in creating and finishing moves for the squad.

Jose Mourinho is looking to revamp the Tottenham midfield and needs more options available to him. There is also the case of Tanguy Ndombele being linked with a move away from the club. Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has already been signed, but bringing in van de Beek will boost the creativity quotient in midfield.

However, that is not to be according to reports, with Manchester United agreeing a deal €40 million with Ajax for the 23-year-old. The Red Devils have agreed personal terms with van de Beek as well, with formalities and medical the only things left.

Manchester United fans will be pleased with the prospect of at least one signing in a much-needed area, especially with how things have panned out in the Jadon Sancho transfer saga so far.
