Manchester United are reportedly eyeing a swoop for Juventus star Alex Sandro as they look to beef up their defensive ranks.

According to Italian publication Calciomercato, Premier League heavyweights Manchester United are plotting a move for Juventus left-back Alex Sandro in the ongoing transfer window.

The 29-year-old has been with the Serie A champions for five years now, having joined from Portuguese outfit FC Porto in 2015. Till date, he has racked up 198 appearances for the Bianconeri, scoring 11 goals and assisting 26 more.

Sandro has been the undisputed first-choice at left-back for Juventus for a number of years now. This past season, he featured 41 times across all competitions. However, the club are now reportedly looking to cash in on the 29-year-old Brazilian and replace him with a younger option, as they kickstart a new era under Andrea Pirlo.

And, Manchester United have shown an interest in landing the Juventus star this summer. The Red Devils qualified for the UEFA Champions League after a hard-fought 2019/20 campaign and are on the lookout for strengthening the squad, as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looks to guide his team back to the top.

However, the interest in Sandro does come as a bit of a surprise. Luke Shaw finally showed signs of coming of age, until injury brought his campaign to a premature end. And academy ace Brandon Williams has enjoyed a sensational breakthrough campaign, which prompted the club to hand him a new long-term contract.

Although the youngster is still a bit rough around the edges, Williams has shown a lot of promise. And signing Sandro this summer would only serve to hamper his development.

Furthermore, Juventus want €40 million for the 29-year-old. At a time when transfer funds have been hit hard due to the pandemic, spending such an amount on a player where the manager has reliable options might not be the smartest move. Instead, Manchester United should put those funds to use in their pursuit of primary transfer target Jadon Sancho.

Sandro is not the only Juventus player that Manchester United are monitoring. The 20-time English champions are also looking at his compatriot Douglas Costa, as a potential alternative for Sancho.
