Manchester United submit an emergency enquiry for Barcelona teenager Ansu Fati as they hit a roadblock en route the Jadon Sancho transfer.

According to a report published by Spanish publication Sport, Manchester United have submitted a fresh enquiry for Barcelona wonderkid Ansu Fati as their hopes to sign Jadon Sancho hit a brick wall.

Ansu Fati came through Barcelona’s famed La Masia academy, joining the first-team this past season when the team was struck by the injuries to Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and then Ousmane Dembele. His impressive performances in the top flight earned him a permanent call-up from the youth setup, as he went on to make 24 appearances in the league, scoring seven goals and setting up one more.

The teenager also became the youngest ever goalscorer in the UEFA Champions League when he hit the winner against Inter Milan at the San Siro. Barcelona have no intention of letting Fati leave anytime soon, with president Josep Bartomeu claiming that he will be promoted to the first-team along with Riqui Puig, and Ronald Araujo.

Manchester United’s interest in Borussia Dortmund sensation Jadon Sancho is no surprise, and the clubs have moved incredibly close to the deal, with the Englishman agreeing to personal terms according to Fabrizio Romano.

However, they have hit a roadblock in their pursuit of the winger, with regards to the transfer fee. The most recent development suggests that Dortmund want United to pay €120 million upfront, something that they are not willing to match.

Consequently, the Red Devils have started to look at alternate names to fill the gap at right-wing. One of those names is Ansu Fati. United made an enquiry about the youngster earlier this year which was rejected. His release clause is set at €170 million, but will rise to €400 million once he reaches the age of 18 this October and becomes a full-time member of the Barca first team.

Barcelona are not interested in letting go of one of the best players to come out of their academy in recent years, and a player who has tipped to take over Lionel Messi’s throne.

The only way United can take their pursuit this deal further, they will have to trigger his €170 million release clause – an absurd, and risky amount for a teenager. However, the 20-time English champions are one of the clubs with little financial concern so it will be interesting to see how this rumour unfolds by the time the window calls curtains.
