Manchester United have reportedly been handed a boost in their pursuit of Jadon Sancho, with Borussia Dortmund ready to sell him for £60 million.

According to a report by The Independent, Manchester United have moved one step closer to signing Jadon Sancho in the summer transfer window. The Premier League heavyweights now know that they need to pay £60 million to swoop the English international away from Borrussia Dortmund, who would want an additional £40 million in variable payments.

Sancho has become one of the hottest properties in Europe since joining Borussia Dortmund from Manchester City in the summer of 2017. What seemed like a huge risk at the time has paid off handsomely, with the 20-year-old now seen as one of the very best on show in the Bundesliga.

2019/20 was stupendously successful season for Sancho, who scored and assisted 20 goals each in 44 outings in all competitions. His progress has invariably piqued the interest of several clubs, with Liverpool, Chelsea, Real Madrid and Barcelona all keeping tabs on him at some stage in the last couple of years. However, it is Manchester United who have been linked with him most heavily.

The interest from Manchester United make a great deal of sense, seeing as they have been lacking a natural option on the right wing for years now. In recent seasons, nearly a dozen players have been deployed on the right wing, albeit to little success, with only Mason Greenwood managing to have a sustained period of impact from the flank.

However, Greenwood is seen as a long-term option in the centre-forward role, meaning Ole Gunnar Solskjaer needs to recruit a natural winger this summer. To that end, Sancho has been identified as the priority for quite some time now and recent reports have pointed towards the formulation of a possible bid by Manchester United.

There have also been suggestions that United have agreed personal terms with Sancho over a move this summer. It now seems like a deal is one step closer, with the report claiming that Dortmund are willing to agree an initial fee with Manchester United for their prized possession.

While all talks are still at an intermediary stage, the fact that Borussia Dortmund are prepared to sell Sancho for around £60 million means formal negotiations between the two clubs could begin. In addition, the Bundesliga giants will also expect bonuses that would take the entire package to over £100 million.

This is a big boost for Manchester United, seeing as Dortmund now seem to be willing to sell Sancho and are ready to agree a reasonable base price for Sancho. More promising is the fact that Die Schwarzgelben ideally want the deal wrapped up before August 10, when the squad returns to pre-season training.

With Manchester United unchallenged in pursuit of Sancho, a move could possibly be completed quickly, especially with the initial fee dropping to £60 million. What now remains to be seen is if the aforementioned rumours of the base price is indeed true and if Sancho arrives at Old Trafford in the next week or so.
