David de Gea is expected to retain his position in goal for now as Manchester United take on Leicester City on the last day of the 2019/20 Premier League.
The pressure will be on both teams as Leicester City and Manchester United vie for the top four spot, which has gone down to the wire. The 38th and last matchday of the 2019/20 Premier League season sees them take on each other at the King Power Stadium, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer unlikely to make changes to his starting eleven.
Despite continuous criticism, Solskjaer is likely to put his trust in David de Gea to be in the Manchester United goal for the all-important game on Sunday. The back-line entrusted to support and protect him should consist of the likes of Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Brandon Williams.
Solskjaer highlighted the absent defenders in his pre-match conference and refused to rule Luke Shaw or Eric Bailly out from having a chance to feature in what he described as a ‘final’ for Manchester United on Sunday.
“We’re going to give them as much time as possible. I’m not going to rule anything out.”
There is a case to be made for Timothy Fosu-Mensah, who impressed while coming on for Wan-Bissaka against West Ham United. But, the academy graduate will have to suffice with a place on the bench for the Leicester game.
Stepping into the midfield, Nemanja Matic is set to continue in his pivot role while Paul Pogba will be looking to exorcise his demons from the past few games, having cost Manchester United two goals. Ole, though, could spring up a surprise in Scott McTominay, who has looked fresh whenever brought on.
Daniel James impressed in a forgetful FA Cup semi-final against Chelsea, but is unlikely to make his way into the starting eleven, judging by the importance of the fixture and the form Mason Greenwood seems to be in. There is no looking past Bruno Fernandes in the number 10 role. The Portuguese has quickly become the centrifugal force for United on the pitch and will hope to do well once again on Sunday.
Marcus Rashford will look to recover from a horrendous outing against West Ham while Anthony Martial will hope to be more clinical against Leicester. Odion Ighalo might be a surprise pick as well. Should he be left on the bench, the Nigerian is still a good option to come on and change the course of the game, if the need arises.
