Manchester United are reportedly confident of completing a deal with Manchester City to sign their prized 600-goal youth sensation Charlie McNeill.

Daily Mail are claiming that Manchester United have made quite a bit of headway in their mission to poach Charlie McNeill from Manchester City. The report states that the Red Devils are confident of convincing both their rivals and the player to complete the deal facilitating McNeill’s move across the city.

Charlie NcNeill has been labelled a prodigy and for all the right reasons. The forward has netted 600 goals across all age groups during six-year stint at Manchester City and interestingly, Manchester United. But, miffed at a lack of opportunities at the Under-18 level, the 16-year-old rejected a professional contract from the club and is looking for a fresh start elsewhere.

As mentioned above, McNeill spent his early years at Manchester United before completing a switch to the blue half and is a self-professed childhood United fan. McNeill seems to have made up his mind already, having thanked Manchester City a month ago itself, for his time at the club.

Manchester United’s interest does also indicate the improvement that McNeill has undergone. The Red Devils have, in recent times, established a flourishing youth setup that has resumed their service of acting as an able supply chain for the first-team setup.

The forward line especially, consists of young superstars like Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood – two out of three coming from the academy. Charlie McNeill is touted to have the ability to emulate Rashford and Greenwood, if he does make the move to Manchester United.

The negotiations between the two clubs have hit a dead end according to reports. Manchester City want a seven-figure fee along with performance and development related bonuses, which is where the two clubs seem apart in their valuation.

Should they fail to agree a fee and McNeill completes the switch, Manchester City will be entitled to compensation decided by the tribunal as per the rules surrounding development fees for players under the age of 24.

Manchester United are already gearing up to announce the induction of imports like Marc Jurado, Isak Hansen-Aaroen and Alvaro Fernandez while also having announced the intake of former Sunderland forward Joe Hugill among others. Adding someone of Charlie McNeill’s calibre will only further the quality of competition at the level.

Manchester United would ideally want to seal the deal for McNeill soon, with Premier League club Wolves and newly promoted Leeds United taking note of his availability as well.
