Chelsea have reportedly joined Leicester City in the race to sign Luka Jovic, with Real Madrid ready to sell him for €35 million.

According to Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo, Chelsea are the latest club to show an interest in Luka Jovic. The beleaguered Serbian striker, who has a €35 million price tag, is also the subject of interest from Leicester City, with Real Madrid ready to cash in on him.

Jovic joined Real Madrid from Eintracht Frankfurt last summer following a stunning 2018/19 campaign in the Bundesliga. However, his maiden campaign in the Spanish capital has not gone to plan, with the player struggling to carve out a place for himself in the first-team setup.

So far this season, the 22-year-old has not even played 800 minutes of football, with just 2 goals and 2 assists to show for his efforts so far. The Serb has not only failed to make any sort of meaningful impact but has also been embroiled in needless controversy. It now looks like things have reached a head, with Real Madrid ready to sell him. Chelsea and Leicester are eyeing him.

The interest from Chelsea comes as a bit of a surprise, seeing as they have already signed a striker in Timo Werner. With the German international arriving at Stamford Bridge soon, Frank Lampard will have four strikers at his disposal – Tammy Abraham, Olivier Giroud and Michy Batshuayi being the other three.

While Abraham has impressed this season, his contract situation is making things murky. Giroud has done well and will likely be a backup option, while Michy Batshuayi is expected to be on his way out of Chelsea, as per widespread reports. Despite Batshuayi’s potential departure, Lampard does not need to sign any more strikers, especially with Kai Havertz being the next priority in attack.

As for Leicester, their interest does make sense, with Jamie Vardy well into his thirties. While the Englishman is still going strong, he has blown hot and cold since the turn of the year. With Kelechi Iheanacho being inconsistent as well, there is a feeling that Brendan Rodgers could do with a top class striker, making Jovic a viable target.

What also makes the Serbian striker an appealing prospect is his €35 million price tag. With the coronavirus pandemic hitting every club’s finances, cost-effective signings are the need of the hour. Chelsea and Leicester, though, could face competition from AC Milan in his pursuit, with the Rossoneri eyeing him as a replacement for long-term Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

For now, what appears to be certain is that Luka Jovic might be running on his last legs at Real Madrid. With Chelsea, Leicester City and AC Milan in his pursuit and an attractive €35 million price tag, a summer move could well be in the offing.
