Georginio Wijnaldum is reportedly on the radars of Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Juventus, with the final year of his Liverpool deal beginning soon.

According to a report by Goal, Georginio Wijnaldum’s future as a Liverpool player remains as uncertain as it has ever been. The Dutch midfielder, who will soon enter the final year of his deal at Anfield, is the subject of interest from Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Juventus.

Wijnaldum has come a long way since being relegated from the Premier League at the end of the 2016/17 season with Newcastle United. The player subsequently joined Liverpool in the summer transfer window that followed and has since gone on to become one of the best midfielders in Europe.

So far in his Liverpool career, the 29-year-old has turned out a staggering 177 times, with a handy contribution of 18 goals and 16 assists in these outings. However, his future at Liverpool is up in the air, with a little over one year remaining on his current contract. And, in such a scenario, the likes of Barcelona and Bayern Munich are looking to pounce.

Barcelona have not been linked with many midfielders since the turn of the year. However, a closer look at their squad suggests that they should bolster their midfield this summer. Ivan Rakitic is in the twilight of his career and is likely to be sold once the season ends; Arturo Vidal is in a similar boat.

With Sergio Busquets also on the wrong side of 30, the only other recognised options at Quique Setien’s disposal are Frenkie de Jong and Arthur, with the future of Carles Alena up in the air. Riqui Puig is rated highly but is unlikely to become a regular anytime soon for Barcelona. As a result, prising Wijnaldum away from Liverpool would be a step in the right direction.

Bayern Munich, on the other hand, could see Corentin Tolisso depart in the summer. With Javi Martinez in his thirties and former Liverpool star Philippe Coutinho set to return to Barcelona at the end of his loan spell, it is clear that Bayern could do with a midfielder, making Wijnaldum a viable target.

The report claims that Liverpool are still some way off getting Wijnaldum to sign the dotted line, although there have been suggestions recently that he is on the verge of penning a renewal. Meanwhile, apart from Barcelona and Bayern Munich, Juventus are also interested in the 29-year-old.

What now remains to be seen is if Liverpool can make progress in their talks with Wijnaldum over a new contract. If not, we could see the Dutch international leave Anfield, with Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Juventus keeping a close eye on his situation.
