FC Barcelona’s pursuit of prodigal son Neymar is facing a stumbling block, with Paris Saint-Germain asking for a staggering £155 million.

According to Diario Sport, as relayed by Mirror, Barcelona’s hopes of re-signing Neymar has hit a major stumbling block after Paris Saint-Germain reveal their price-tag for the attacking sensation. It is believed that the French club is standing firm on their whopping £155 million of their Brazilian star.

Barcelona have been trying to sign Neymar for a long time now and have been linked with several swap deal offers. However, PSG are apparently unwilling to make any compensations regarding their asking price and are only interesting in a cash deal.

This could serve as a major blow for Barcelona, who are in desperate need of offensive reinforcement in the summer. Philippe Coutinho has already been linked with a move away from Camp Nou while the likes of Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi are nearing the final phases of their respective careers.

Suarez, in particular, has suffered from a number of fitness problems within the past 12 months. And the Uruguayan international could be tempted to take the next step in his careers. There are already a few interesting options available as well.

Aside from Suarez, Ousmane Dembele has had a miserable time at Barcelona with injuries. The Frenchman has mostly spent his career at Camp Nou on the sidelines. He is, in fact, also tipped to leave the club in the summer, with Premier League emerging as a potential destination.

All of these issues certainly accentuate the need for a new quality attacker and Neymar fits the bill perfectly and multiple reasons. He has already played at Barcelona and has an excellent understanding with the likes of Messi, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alaba.

During his time in Catalonia, the Brazilian ace made almost 200 appearances in all competitions, helping the club win several trophies. He was also involved in 182 goals, which is an amazing statistic for any footballer.

He could have, therefore, solved Barcelona’s apparent problems on the flanks. His partnership with Antoine Griezmann and Messi could have possibly redeemed the quality of the club’s once-revered attacking trio of MSN.

However, with PSG unwilling to sell Neymar for less than £155 million, Barcelona might be forced to set their sights on other targets, especially considering priority target Lautaro Martinez will cost a bomb as well. The ongoing Coronavirus pandemic has already inflicted massive financial damage and with that in mind, it would perhaps be wiser for Quique Setien to pursue a cheaper alternative.
