Chelsea are reportedly set to rival Arsenal in pursuit of Orkun Kokcu, who is being tailed by several clubs over a move this summer.

According to a report by Daily Express, Orkun Kokcu has no shortage of suitors plotting a move for him in the summer transfer window. Arsenal have already been linked with the 19-year-old lately, but the Gunners have now been joined by Chelsea and four other clubs in the race to sign a player valued at £23 million.

Kokcu came through the ranks at Feyenoord after joining the Dutch club from Groningen in 2014. The player, who represented Netherlands till under-19 football but now turns out for the Turkish under-21 side, broke through into the first-team setup last season, making 12 appearances.

His true breakthrough, though, happened this season, with the 19-year-old making 35 appearances across all competitions. A return of 3 goals and 6 assists can be improved, but Kokcu seems to have done enough to attract interest from some of the best clubs in the world, with Chelsea and Arsenal among those chasing him.

At Chelsea, Frank Lampard has plenty of midfielders at his disposal, especially following the superb emergence of Billy Gilmour this term. However, Jorginho and N’Golo Kante have been linked with possible moves away from Stamford Bridge, while Ross Barkley and Danny Drinkwater seem to be nearing the end of their times at Chelsea.

All things considered, a move for a midfielder is understandable, with Max Bird heavily linked with a possible summer switch. And, Kokcu is the latest player to emerge on the radar of Chelsea, who have joined Arsenal in pursuit of the talented Turk.

The Gunners are set to lose Dani Ceballos when the season ends, with the Spaniard expected to return to Real Madrid. With Mesut Ozil showing signs of age catching up with him, Arsenal do need to sign a midfielder to be a long-term solution for Mikel Arteta. To that end, a move for Kokcu has been mooted.

Apart from Chelsea and Arsenal, the likes of AS Roma, Atalanta, Real Betis and Sevilla are eyeing a move for Kokcu as well. That the player has rejected a new contract offer by Feyenoord only goes on to strengthen the position of the suitors. Add to it the fact that he will cost around £23 million, and Kokcu appears to be an attractive target for the clubs mentioned.

What now remains to be seen is if Arsenal can step up their pursuit of the player, having already established contacts with Feyenoord; or can Chelsea beat their London rivals, as well as the other suitors, in the race to sign the Turkish midfielder.
