Real Madrid are reportedly interested in AS Monaco star Aurelien Tchouameni and are considering him as an alternative to Eduardo Camavinga.

According to Spanish publication Sport, Real Madrid are planning contingencies in case they are unable to land Ligue 1 wonderkid Eduardo Camavinga. The alternative option just so happens to be another wonderkid from the region, with AS Monaco youngster Aurelien Tchouameni on their radar.

The report states that Real Madrid will prioritise the pursuit of Rennes midfielder Eduardo Camavinga. But, Los Blancos are also aware of the widespread interest in Camavinga along with the fact that they could have to spend an extravagant amount to get the 17-year-old, something which is unlikely to be feasible considering the losses suffered during the suspended period of football.

Hence, if Camavinga’s pursuit becomes a difficult proposition at any stage, Real Madrid are ready to jump ship and target Aurelien Tchouameni, who joined AS Monaco in January, 2020 itself from fellow Ligue 1 club Bordeaux. Tchouameni hasn’t got much of a look-in at Monaco so far, despite being impressive in his short period in the first-team setup at Bordeaux.

Aurelien Tchouameni is a player that focuses more on winning the ball in the middle of the park and connecting defence with attack through simple passes. Tchouameni is lauded for his concentration, which elevates his ability to get interceptions and stop the flow of the opposition’s build-up play.

Real Madrid have similar players in Casemiro and Federico Valverde. But, Zinedine Zidane would love to add someone who can contest with Casemiro for the spot while also being a prospect who can take ultimately take over from the Brazilian. Not to mention that Tchouameni is seemingly out-of-favour at Monaco despite arriving only in January and will be a much more realistic target compared to Camavinga.

The 20-year-old will also not cost anywhere near the amount that Camavinga will reportedly command, which would be a huge bonus for Real Madrid, who are set to target recruitments in other positions as well during the summer.

Camavinga is Madrid’s number one choice, but if Rennes end up playing hard ball, we could see them shift gears on their pursuit of Tchouameni, who ticks the same boxes and arguably costs less.
