Borussia Dortmund are plotting a summer move for Arsenal youngster Bukayo Saka amid reports linking Jadon Sancho with a switch to Manchester United.

According to Mirror, Bukayo Saka has emerged as the latest target for Borussia Dortmund as they continue their scouting mission in England. The Arsenal star is facing an uncertain future at the club, with just a year left on his current contract.

As a result, the Black and Yellows are looking to secure a deal for the youngster amid reports linking their star man Jadon Sancho with a summer transfer to Manchester United. The fact that Saka has emerged as a potential replacement for the English international is not surprising at all.

The Arsenal winger has emerged as one of the rising stars in the Premier League this season. He has already featured in 18 league matches, registering three assists and giving Mikel Arteta some much-needed depth in the side.

Interestingly, however, Saka, despite being a winger, has predominantly featured as a left-back. Indeed, he has been considered as a backup for the two premier fullbacks in Kieran Tierney and Sead Kolasinac, both of whom have struggled with injuries throughout the course of the campaign.

Saka, in that regard, has made full use of his opportunities and has become one of the key members of Arteta’s setup. His quick feet, combined with his ability to link up play in the final third have helped the wide players in the likes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Gabriel Martinelli.

Moreover, the youngster has shown incredible composure at the highest level of football. He rarely loses focus and is quite confident when it comes to taking on defenders, much like Dortmund’s Sancho himself.

Having said that, the 18-year-old will be more of a utility player for Borussia Dortmund than a direct replacement for the English international. Although Saka is, no doubt, a talented individual, he can definitely thrive in a more defensive role, which, interestingly, could also bode well for Dortmund.

The Bundesliga giants lack depth in the left-back slot, with Marcel Schmelzer nearing the end of his career while Nico Schulz has failed big time since joining the club last summer. That leaves Lucien Favre with Raphael Guerreiro as his only viable option.

Saka, in that respect, could compete with the Portuguese international for a place in the first-team next season. Meanwhile, Dortmund have been linked with a move for Jude Bellingham who could also be an excellent addition to the side as the club prepares to take on Bayern Munich in the near future.

However, Sancho’s potential departure could serve as a massive blow for the Black and Yellows, although it is unclear as to where exactly the winger will move next season.
