Liverpool are reportedly in talks with the representatives of Inter Milan and Croatia midfielder Marcelo Brozovic, who has a release clause of £52 million.
According to a report by Libero (h/t Express), Liverpool are locked in negotiations with the agents of Inter Milan midfielder Marcelo Brozovic as they explore the prospect of signing the Croatian international in the summer transfer window.
Brozovic joined Inter Milan from Dinamo Zagreb in 2016 and has grown into one of the most reliable midfielders in the Serie A. The 27-year-old has become an indispensable member of the team under Antonio Conte this season, missing just four of Inter’s 36 matches in all competitions. He has scored 3 goals and set up 5 more.
Liverpool, according to the report, have taken an interest in securing the services of the Croatian international in the summer. The Reds have had a splendid season as they look set to lift their first-ever Premier League title when the season resumes from suspension.
However, the midfield department might need some reinforcing in the summer as Adam Lallana is being linked with an exit, as his contract nears expiry. Moreover, Naby Keita has flattered to deceive once again while James Milner isn’t getting any younger.
Add to that, Georginio Wijnaldum will also be entering the final year of his contract with Liverpool. While it is believed that the Ducthman is close to signing an extension, reports in Italy have claimed that Inter Milan are working towards a deal to sign up the midfielder.
So, adding a new midfielder to the ranks, in the form of Brozovic would make sense for Liverpool, given his experience at the top level and the fact that he can anchor the midfield as a No. 6 or even operate as a box-to-box midfielder if needed. To that end, the Merseyside giants are in talks with the 27-year-old’s agent over the possibility of a summer switch.
Brozovic is contracted with Inter Milan till the summer of 2022 and has a release clause of £52 million. The report adds that the Nerazzurri are working on extending his stay at the club.
The Croatian international has been playing some of his best football under Conte this season and is entering the peak of his career. But it remains to be seen if Liverpool are willing to splash the cash on Brozovic, especially if Wijnaldum ends up penning a new contract.
