Manchester United have reportedly joined the hunt for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who could be on his way out of Arsenal this summer.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Sport, Manchester United are the latest club to emerge on the trails of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. The Arsenal captain has also being tailed by the likes of Barcelona, Real Madrid and PSG over a possible move in the summer transfer window.

Aubameyang has been a clear standout for Arsenal since joining them in January 2018, often making the difference on his own. After winning the Premier League Golden Boot in his first full season with Arsenal, the 30-year-old is in the mix to do a repeat this term.

In 2019-20, Aubameyang has enjoyed another fine campaign on a personal level, having also been promoted to the role of club captaincy. However, with just over a year left on his current Arsenal contract, a move away from the Emirates has been mooted.

The likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona have been heavily linked with a possible swoop for a player who will cost a mere €50 million. Now, the Spanish giants have been joined by Manchester United in the race to sign Aubameyang, with PSG also showing an interest in him.

Manchester United have seen Marcus Rashford grow considerably this season, with Anthony Martial also making a major impact. In addition to the duo, Mason Greenwood is seen as one for the future and has already made quite an impression this season, racking up over 10 goals in his first full season as a senior Manchester United footballer.

But, judging by the way Solskjaer has eased Greenwood into the thick of things, signing a striker who could be a short-term solution could be the right way forward. Odion Ighalo is one such option if Manchester United choose to sign him on a permanent deal in the summer.

However, if they could get their hands on Aubameyang, who they have now approached over a possible summer move, Manchester United will be able to boast of perhaps, the most formidable attacking unit in the Premier League. At his prime and vying for the Golden Boot, the 30-year-old is also an able leader and can potentially push Martial to greater heights.

Having said that, a major obstacle in Manchester United’s pursuit of Aubameyang would be the fact that Arsenal are highly unlikely to allow him to do a Robin van Persie and make the switch to a Premier League rival. To that end, the likes of Barcelona, Real Madrid and PSG would fancy their chances of snapping him up.

What will also be interesting to see is if Aubameyang chooses to renew his deal with Arsenal, having insisted that he is content at the Emirates. As for Manchester United, it remains to be seen if they can somehow get a move for the Gabonese star over the line this summer.
