Liverpool are reportedly keen on signing Diego Carlos from Sevilla in the summer transfer window, with Barcelona and Real Madrid also chasing him.

According to a report by Spanish outlet MARCA, Sevilla defender Diego Carlos is the subject of interest from Liverpool. La Liga giants Barcelona and Real Madrid are also set to battle Liverpool in the race to sign the 27-year-old Brazilian in the summer transfer window.

Diego Carlos joined Sevilla from Ligue 1 outfit Nantes last summer and immediately established himself as a mainstay in defence for Los Nervionenses. So far this season, the 27-year-old Brazilian defender has made 31 appearances across all competitions in Julen Lopetegui’s side, missing just one La Liga game when available.

Carlos’s performances this season seem to have caught the eye of some of the best clubs in the world. The three biggest clubs in La Liga – Barcelona, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid – were already in pursuit of the player, with Liverpool now joining the race to sign him.

The interest from Liverpool makes some sense despite the fact that Jurgen Klopp already has four senior centre-backs at his disposal. Considering Dejan Lovren has been heavily linked with a move away from Anfield, the Reds would be in need of a central defender.

While Klopp could soon call upon Sepp van den Berg and Ki-Jana Hoever, the young duo are still at the nascent stages of their respective careers and will not be regulars in the Liverpool first-team setup anytime soon. Liverpool, though, face stiff competition from Real Madrid and Barcelona.

At Real Madrid, Zinedine Zidane has Sergio Ramos, Raphael Varane and Eder Militao to choose from, with Nacho being a backup option. Nacho, though, has been linked with Lazio over a possible summer move, meaning Los Blancos could need a centre-back in the summer.

As for Barcelona, Samuel Umtiti is being touted for a possible summer exit, with reports suggesting that the Catalans are ready to cash in on him. In such a scenario, Diego Carlos would be a straightforward replacement for the Frenchman, making him a viable target for Barcelona.

However, despite interest from the likes of Liverpool, Barcelona, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid, Carlos has committed himself to Sevilla, claiming he is content at his present club. What now remains to be seen is if Liverpool can do anything to turn the player’s head, or if he stays put at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium.
