Chelsea have reportedly added the name of Robin Gosens to the potential list of summer targets, with the Atalanta star also a target for Inter Milan.

According to Italian publication Calciomercato, Robin Gosens has also emerged as an option for Chelsea as Frank Lampard scours the market for a left-back. The Atalanta defender is also on the radar of Lyon and Inter Milan as well as Serie A heavyweights Juventus.

In fact, the report states that Lyon had submitted a €25 million offer for Gosens in January, only to be told by Atalanta to come back with a higher bid. The Serie A club reportedly values him between €35 million to €40 million.

Robin Gosens has been one of the best bargains for Atalanta over the recent years. Arriving for less than €1 million, Gosens has gone on to become a regular for the club. But, the transition to left midfield has brought the best of his attacking traits. Gosens has played most of the 2019-20 Serie A season up ahead in wide midfield, with a return of 7 goals and 5 assists in 22 league appearances.

Chelsea have had a problem brewing at left-back all season. Emerson emerged as the first-choice left-back towards the end of Maurizio Sarri’s reign. But, the Italian international failed to convince Frank Lampard. Marcos Alonso, on the other hand, continued to be good going forward, but the defensive lapses made it tough for the manager to pick him regularly.

Instead, once Reece James was fit and raring to go, Cesar Azpilicueta was shifted to his previously natural position on the left. And while the Chelsea captain has done his bit, he isn’t as effective as he once was on the left, which makes the left-back a priority area for reinforcement in the upcoming window.

Calciomercato state that Chelsea might be able to get the asking price down to €30 million upon negotiation. For a 25-year-old who has shown he has a talent on both ends of the pitch in different seasons at Atalanta, €30 million would be more than a just price.

There are other competitors for Gosens, who might be interested in Juventus and Inter Milan, if he wants to stay in Serie A. But, to be part of the illustrious Premier League might enable him to challenge for a spot in the German National Team, which could entice him towards a move to England.
