Manchester United have reportedly entered the race for Paris Saint-Germain defender Thomas Meunier, who is out of contract this summer.

According to a report from French outlet Le Quotidien du Foot (h/t Daily Mail), Manchester United have joined the likes of Borussia Dortmund and AC Milan in the race to sign PSG defender Thomas Meunier.

Meunier signed for the French champions in the summer of 2016 from Belgian outfit Club Brugge. But, the 28-year-old has never been able to establish himself as the undisputed first-choice at right-back in Paris, having had to face competition from the likes of Serge Aurier initially, and Thilo Kehrer and Colin Dagba of late.

Meunier is in the final few months of his current contract with PSG. This has seen the Belgian get linked with a number of clubs across Europe. Arsenal were one among those clubs interested in the 28-year-old’s services, along with the likes of Borussia Dortmund and AC Milan.

And as per the aforementioned report, Manchester United have also entered the race to sign Meunier. The Red Devils were on a resurgent run prior to the Premier League getting suspended due to the coronavirus breakout. But, there is still work to be done for Ole Gunnar Solksjaer and the club will need to bring in a few more players before the next term.

The right-back slot though is pretty much locked in for Manchester United. The 20-time English champions invested heavily in Aaron Wan-Bissaka last summer and the former Crystal Palace man has easily been one of the club’s best players in his debut season.

Solskjaer also has Diogo Dalot at his disposal, while academy graduate Ethan Laird also is showing great potential. So, the claim that Manchester United are interested in signing Meunier next summer does come out as a bit confusing. Even if the PSG man does join the club, it is hard to see him displacing Wan-Bissaka as the first-choice right-back.

Meunier, in a recent interview, claimed that he was hoping to stay put in Paris. But, there have been little indications that PSG want to offer him a new contract. It remains to be seen as to what the future holds for the 28-year-old, but a move to Manchester United sounds too far-fetched.
