West Ham are ready to swoop controversial Barcelona signing Martin Braithwaite a month after his arrival.
As per a report published by The Sun, Martin Braithwaite could be on his way from Camp Nou only after a month since he arrived.
The Danish forward signed for Catalan giants in a rather questionable move for €15 million. Barcelona were given permission to sign a forward from within the league by the Spanish Football authorities after Barcelona faced a massive injury crisis and were left with only 2 first team attackers.
This decision was made after Ousmane Dembele was ruled out for 6 months, and Luis Suarez already out for 4 months. As Barcelona picked up a replacement forward outside the transfer window, Leganes on the other hand were not given permission to sign Braithwaite’s replacement.
This stirred up a lot of controversy among the faithfuls of the sport who questioned the decision by La Liga blaming them for playing favourites.
Braithwaite is only allowed to play in the league and had made 3 appearances from the bench, debuting in a 5-0 win over Eibar. The 28 year old has added a directness to Barcelona’s style which seemed much needed.
The former Middlesbrough striker earned his first start against Real Sociedad, playing almost the entire duration of the match. This was the last game Barcelona played before La Liga and European football came to a halt because of Coronavirus threats.
At the moment, football has been suspended indefinitely, and the idea that all leagues will be declared null and void remains very real.
Once the sport resumes, Dembele and Suarez will be back to full fitness. Moreover, Barcelona may add more attackers to their arsenal, which would push Braithwaite further down the pecking order. West Ham have identified this possibility early and want to secure his services for the London Stadium.
Braithwaite’s previous experience in England has been far from ideal. The Dane signed for Middlesbrough in June 2017. He scored 8 goals in 36 appearances and was subsequently loaned out regularly before Leganes signed up in a permanent move.
The 28 year old is quick, strong, and very agile, his resume fits the Premier League bill perfectly. Braithwaite would not be getting chances in Barcelona’s first team come next season and instead of joining a relegation battling team, he should consider a move back to the Premier League.
