Real Madrid are reportedly eyeing a summer swoop for Tottenham Hotspur superstar Harry Kane as a potential long-term replacement for Karim Benzema.

According to a report from Spanish publication AS, La Liga giants Real Madrid are interested in making a summer swoop for Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane, who reportedly wants out of the North London outfit at the end of the season.

Kane has established himself as one of the deadliest strikers across Europe over the past half-a-decade, helping Tottenham become a force to be reckoned with. The 26-year-old has netted 181 goals in 278 appearances so far for Spurs, while setting up 30 more. 17 of those goals came in the ongoing term, before he picked up a serious thigh injury.

However, recent reports have claimed that the England captain has his heart set on an exit from Tottenham in the summer. The fact that Spurs are yet to win a major title and could be headed for another major rebuild under Jose Mourinho ahead of the next season is said to be the driving force behind Kane’s decision.

This development has put a number of clubs across Europe on high-alert, with Manchester United and Manchester City following the situation closely. Now, the Premier League giants will have to battle it out with Real Madrid to secure Kane’s signature in the summer.

Real Madrid have had an inconsistent campaign so far, with lack of goals being a concern for Zinedine Zidane’s side. The Merengues have been over-reliant on Karim Benzema for goals since the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo. While they did sign Luka Jovic in a big-money deal last summer, it hasn’t really worked out for the Serb in Madrid.

So, it makes sense that Zidane and Real Madrid are looking to add another world-class striker to their ranks to support and eventually replace Benzema as the club’s premier marksman for years to come. To that end, they have set their eyes on Spurs’ star Kane.

Kane still has four years left on his current contract with Tottenham and chairman Daniel Levy is likely to demand a humongous transfer fee of around £150 million for the Englishman. That should not be a problem for Real Madrid, who are also believed to be targeting Liverpool superstar Sadio Mane.

There is no doubt that the addition of Kane will take this Real Madrid side to a new level. However, it remains to be seen if Los Blancos are able to convince Tottenham to part ways with their star striker in the summer.
