Barcelona have reportedly been told by PSG to fork out €150 million to secure the services of Neymar in the summer transfer window.
According to Julien Laurens of ESPN, as carried out by Spanish publication MARCA, PSG have set their price tag in order to part ways with Neymar in the summer transfer window. Barcelona are the favourites to sign the Brazilian international, but the Blaugrana will have to cough up €150 million to land their former player.
Neymar has long been regarded as one of the best players in the world, having dazzled for club and country for nearly a decade now. Part of the fabled MSN trio at Barcelona, the Brazilian forward had the world at his feet before he took the shock decision to join PSG in a world record €222 million move in the summer of 2017.
Since making the switch to Parc des Princes, the player has maintained his levels, but has also been hit by a spate of injuries. Nevertheless, a record of 69 goals and 39 assists in just 80 appearances is just stupendous to say the least.
However, having been unsettled in the French capital for some time now, it has been reported that a move back to Spain could be on the cards for the 28-year-old. In the summer, arch rivals Barcelona and Real Madrid were mooted to be in a head-to-head battle for Neymar.
As things stand, though, Barcelona are touted to be the favourites to secure the services of their former player. In fact, Julien Laurens (h/t MARCA) has claimed that the La Liga champions are a step closer to bringing the player back to Camp Nou in the summer transfer window.
Barcelona do appear to be in need of attacking reinforcements, with Ousmane Dembele struggling to stamp his authority since making the switch from Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2017. Injuries have left the Frenchman on the sidelines more often than not and he is currently out with another long-term fitness complaint.
Having already sold Carles Perez, Quique Setien has Lionel Messi, Antoine Griezmann, Luis Suarez and the inexperienced Ansu Fati as his only other attacking options. To that end, making a move for Neymar makes sense for Barcelona, who had reportedly been in desperate hunt for him deep into the summer transfer window as well.
What boosts Barcelona’s chances is the fact that PSG are likely to allow Neymar to leave in the summer transfer window. The French champions, though, want €150 million in exchange of the Brazilian international’s services.
For now, it looks like Neymar is a priority for Josep Maria Bartomeu, with Messi also in favour of bringing him back to the club. It now remains to be seen if Barcelona meet the €150 million set by PSG to seal a big return in the summer transfer window.
