Chelsea are reportedly interested in Manchester United academy graduate Dean Henderson and are keeping track of his loan spell at Sheffield United.

According to an exclusive report from Daily Star, Dean Henderson is being watched by a rival. The Manchester United academy graduate has been having a wondrous loan spell at Sheffield United and his form has compelled Chelsea to take a keen look at the goalkeeper as a potential summer replacement for Kepa Arrizabalaga.

Kepa Arrizabalaga has been a real let-down since joining Chelsea from Athletic Bilbao for a record fee for a goalkeeper. The Spaniard has one of the worst save percentages among Premier League goalkeepers and has been one of the worst performing keepers in Europe.

It is no wonder Frank Lampard dropped the Spaniard for a few games in 2020 and is reportedly planning to replace him in the summer, with many options touted to be in their list of replacements. One of the fresh names on the list is Dean Henderson, who is currently on loan at Sheffield United.

Manchester United have had their own share of problems with David de Gea in recent times, with the Spaniard nowhere near his usual domineering self. There are reports Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is hoping to bring back Dean Henderson after his loan spell at Sheffield United ends and make him de Gea’s challenger, if not the outright first-choice at Old Trafford.

Alternatively, d,e Gea could also be allowed to leave for another club, with Dean Henderson taking his place. Sheffield United are realistic about their chances of being able to land Dean Henderson for another year or on a permanent basis and have already started scouring for a good replacement for the Manchester United academy graduate.

Chelsea’s pursuit will be made monumentally difficult because of Dean Henderson’s public admission of his desire to be the first-choice at Manchester United. The Blues have other options to consider as well and might as well keep Kepa if his form improves in the second half of the season.

As far as Dean Henderson is concerned, he is due for a call-up to the England squad and is in with a strong shout to be in the squad for Euros in 2020. If that is the case, there is a doubt that the soon-to-be 23-year-old will be content with a place at Manchester United as de Gea’s deputy.
