Serie A giants Inter Milan are reportedly plotting a summer move for Chelsea defender Marcos Alonso with Antonio Conte eyeing a reunion with the Spaniard.

According to a report from Italian publication Calciomercato, Chelsea star Marcos Alonso is a subject of transfer interest from Serie A heavyweights Inter Milan, who are keen on taking the 29-year-old back to Italy in the summer window.

Alonso arrived at Chelsea from Inter’s Serie A rivals Fiorentina in the summer of 2016 in a deal worth €23 million. The 29-year-old has accumulated 129 appearances for the West London outfit, winning a Premier League title, an FA Cup and the UEFA Europa League.

Having enjoyed a solid start to life in England, Alonso has been in and out of the starting lineup in the past year or so. The Spanish international has featured just 19 times across all competitions this season with Frank Lampard opting to use club captain Cesar Azpilicueta at left-back often.

Alonso, though, has enjoyed a bit of resurgence in recent games, scoring in his last two Premier League appearances against Tottenham and Bournemouth. However, his long-term future at Chelsea has been a subject of transfer speculation, with Inter Milan eyeing a summer move for the Spaniard.

Inter had been heavily linked with a move for Alonso in the January transfer window, but a move never materialized with the Nerazzurri bringing in Ashley Young and Victor Moses. However, the report from Calciomercato claims that the Serie A giants are set to offload the latter in the summer along with Cristiano Biraghi, who has found regular game time hard to come by.

Inter Milan manager Antonio Conte has decided to make Alonso his primary target for the left wing-back slot heading into the summer window. It was Conte who signed the Spaniard at Chelsea four years ago and has now set his sights on a reunion ahead of the next season.

The report further adds that Chelsea are demanding a transfer fee in the range of €30 million for the 29-year-old, whose contract with the Blues runs till the summer of 2023. The Premier League giants are understood to have already put a plan in place to replace Alonso, with a €40 million move for Porto’s Brazilian full-back Alex Telles in the works.

While Alonso may have been a resurgent run of late, it seems unlikely that he will be plying his trade at Stamford Bridge come next season. It now remains to be seen if he joins up with Conte at Inter next summer or moves to a different club.
