Barcelona are reportedly looking to replace injured striker Luis Suarez with his namesake, Luis Suarez of Real Zaragoza as a potential emergency signing.

As per a report from Spanish radio program El Larguero, as carried by AS, Barcelona are looking at Real Zaragoza centre-forward Luis Suarez as a potential replacement for namesake Luis Suarez, who is out injured for the season.

It is no secret that Barcelona are short on numbers in the attacking third with Suarez ruled out after undergoing a surgery on his troublesome knee last month. The Catalans went on to sell Carles Perez and Abel Ruiz in the January transfer window, despite being thinly-stretched in the department and things have now gotten worse for them.

Earlier this week, it was confirmed that Ousmane Dembele, who was on a comeback trail from an injury, succumbed to another thigh injury and needs to undergo a surgery. The Frenchman is scheduled to go under the knife on Tuesday and could potentially be sidelined for five months.

Although the transfer window is now closed, Dembele’s injury has provided Barcelona with a window to bring in a new player from within Spain as an emergency signing. Any transfer though will depend on the medical committee of the Spanish Football Federation approving Barcelona’s request for a new player.

In case their request is approved, Barcelona are hoping to make a move for Real Zaragoza’s Luis Suarez, who has been enjoying a fine campaign in the Spanish second division. The 22-year-old Colombian joined Los Manos on loan from Premier League side Watford in the summer and has been in top form, helping their push for promotion.

Suarez, so far in the ongoing campaign, has found the net on 14 occasions from 24 league matches, while setting up 3 more, helping Zaragoza to the third spot in the table. And his performances have reportedly caught the eye of Barcelona, with El Larguero claiming that representatives from the Catalan outfit have already made contact with the striker’s camp.

Barcelona are looking at the 22-year-old only as a temporary solution. However, there will be complications for the transfer to go through given the fact that Suarez is already on loan at Zaragoza from Watford. It remains to be seen if the Catalans press ahead with their interest in Suarez or decide to pursue alternate targets, as they look to reinforce their attack.
