Manchester United have reportedly ceded their interest in Leicester City superstar James Maddison, who is set to sign a new deal with the Foxes.

According to a report by Daily Express, Manchester United are no longer interested in signing James Maddison in the summer transfer window. The 23-year-old English international is set to renew terms with the Foxes, forcing the Red Devils to turn their attention towards Jack Grealish.

Maddison has been in incredible touch since making the step up to the Premier League by joining Leicester City from Norwich City in the summer of 2018. Over the last 18 months or so, Maddison has established himself as a pivotal player for the Foxes and has played a key role in their bid to achieve Champions League qualification this season.

The 23-year-old has missed just one Premier League game this term, with 6 goals and 3 assists in 24 top-flight outings so far. His exploits have also earned him a place in Gareth Southgate’s squad in the English national side while also capturing the attention of Manchester United.

For a long time, Manchester United had been in the need of signing a top class attacking midfielder, with the first-team sorely lacking goals from midfield, while the absence of Paul Pogba has deprived them of creativity. However, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer recently bolstered his options by signing Bruno Fernandes in the January transfer window.

The arrival of the Portuguese international has not completely alleviated the need to sign another midfielder, especially amid uncertainty surrounding the future of Pogba. However, while Manchester United are keen on making further reinforcements, they no longer hold an interest in Maddison.

Maddison is in advanced talks to sign a bumper new contract with Leicester City, which has forced Manchester United to withdraw their interest in him. Instead, the Premier League heavyweights are instead eager to secure the services of Jack Grealish now.

With Aston Villa in the relegation dogfight, Manchester United fancy their chances of snapping up the 24-year-old, who is also keen on making the switch to Old Trafford. As for Maddison, he now looks set to stay put at the King Power Stadium, with a move to Manchester United no longer a possibility.
