Manchester United star Jesse Lingard is reportedly open to a summer transfer amid interest from AS Roma and Atletico Madrid.

According to a report from ESPN, struggling Manchester United midfielder Jesse Lingard could be on his way out of the club in the summer with Serie A outfit AS Roma and La Liga giants Atletico Madrid showing interest in his services.

Lingard has struggled for form over the past year or so with injuries and personal issues off the field hampering the Manchester United academy graduate. The 27-year-old has not scored a goal in the Premier League since December 2018 and has started just nine league games this season, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer preferring Andreas Pereira ahead of him.

Following the arrival of Bruno Fernandes in the January transfer window, Lingard is likely to fall further down the pecking order at Manchester United. Moreover, the 27-year-old has received a lot of flak from fans for his performances, while he has been on the receiving end of abuse on social media, which has left him unhappy at his current predicament.

This has seemingly cast a doubt on the future of the England international at Old Trafford. The report from ESPN claims that while Lingard would want to remain at Manchester United, he would be open to a transfer away in the summer window should things fail to improve between now and the end of the season.

The report adds that Atletico Madrid are interested in Lingard’s services. The Rojiblancos are having a difficult campaign this time out, with doubts being cast over the position of manager Diego Simeone. So, any interest in Lingard would hinge on who will be at the helm at Atletico in the summer.

Along with Atletico, AS Roma are also in the running for Lingard’s signature. The Giallorossi have lost Nicolo Zaniolo to an ACL injury and the midfielder will be ruled out for the foreseeable future. With former Manchester United man Henrikh Mkhitaryan struggling to make a mark, it makes sense that the club are looking at bringing in a new attacking midfielder in the summer.

Lingard, who had been linked with a switch to Serie A in January as well, has eighteen months left on his contract with Manchester United, with an option to add another year. Manager Solskjaer wants to hold on to the 27-year-old, but with his situation not favourable at the moment, it remains to be seen if the United academy graduate remains at the club come next season.
