Inter Milan have once again set their sights on Real Madrid superstar Luka Modric, who has been identified as a prime target for coach Antonio Conte.

According to Sport, Luka Modric has once emerged as a target for Inter Milan. It is believed that head coach Antonio Conte is pushing the club to sign the Real Madrid midfielder, who was linked with a move to Italy last summer, though he ended up staying at the Bernabeu.

However, things have changed this season, with the midfielder facing fitness problems earlier this campaign, coupled with the fact that he has made only nine starts this season. As a result, Modric’s future at Madrid hangs in the balance, with his current contract expiring at the end of the season.

The report claims that Modric’s future will be decided by Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane. His age is the main issue here, with the midfielder set to turn 35 in September. As mentioned earlier, he has struggled with fitness problems, forcing Zidane to use him during alternative matchdays.

But, with the Frenchman ready to invest in new players in the summer, it remains to be seen whether Modric will stay at Bernabeu next season. Martin Odegaard is set to return, having performed tremendously well at Real Sociedad while Real Madrid have been linked with a move for Donny van de Beek for quite some time now.

Not to mention, Federico Valverde has enjoyed a breakout season at the Bernabeu and the Uruguayan is destined to become a vital part of the team in the upcoming season, thus minimising Modric’s importance. A move to Inter, in that regard, does make sense.

The Nerazzurri have a strong midfield lineup, led by Modric’s compatriot Marcelo Brozovic. However, they are reportedly preparing to live life without Matias Vecino, who has been linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur this January. Moreover, Borja Valero has declined a lot in the past few years and is unlikely to be a part of the team from next season.

And that’s where Modric comes into the fray. Although the Croatian is just a year younger than Valero, his performances at Real Madrid has still remained top-notch. Hence, it would be fair to assume that he still has the quality to improve the Inter Milan side, who are ready to break Juventus’ dominance in Italian football.

Modric’s experience, coupled with his skillset should revamp the Inter Milan side, filled with young, talented midfielders like Stefano Sensi and Roberto Gagliardini. However, it would be equally difficult for Inter Milan to get their hands on Modric as they are unlikely to be the only ones interested in his services.
