Manchester United and Tottenham are reportedly interested in signing Emre Can and are plotting £30 million offers for the Juventus midfielder

According to a report by The Sun, Manchester United and Tottenham have set their sights on Emre Can and are readying £30 million bids for the Juventus midfielder. The Premier League rivals, though, are also bracing themselves for competition from AC Milan for the German international.

Can joined Juventus in the summer of 2018 upon the expiration of his contract with Liverpool. The German international enjoyed a solid debut campaign at the Serie A club, missing just two games when fit and available. However, his standing in the first-team setup has been damaged since the appointment of Maurizio Sarri as the new manager.

Can has started just two games all season, falling to the bottom of the midfield pecking order. The kicker, though, has been his omission from Juventus’s Champions League squad, a decision which has since paved way for rumours of an impending exit from the club. His situation at the Allianz Stadium, though, has piqued the interest of Manchester United and Tottenham.

Midfield has been the running theme of the rumour mill lately for Manchester United, with the club linked with a number of midfielders across Europe. The rumours do make sense, considering Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is down to his bare bones in the middle of the park in the absence of Scott McTominay and Paul Pogba.

Much of the speculation when it comes to midfield reinforcements has centered around the pursuit of Bruno Fernandes. However, Manchester United are also in dire need of signing a midfield who can be seamless deployed in a deeper role.

Can is, thus,  a viable target for Manchester United, who have been linked with a number of central midfielders lately. The interest from Tottenham, though, comes as a bit of a surprise, considering they have only recently secured the services of Gedson Fernandes on an 18-month loan deal.

Having said that, the struggles of Eric Dier, Victor Wanyama and Harry Winks means that Spurs could perhaps, do with a player of Can’s qualities. To that end, Tottenham are now plotting a £30 million bid to secure the services of the out-of-favour Juventus midfielder, Can, with Manchester United also preparing to offer a similar amount to the Bianconeri.

Manchester United, though, face a major obstacle in pursuit of Can, who is hesitant in joining the Red Devils out of respect for former club Liverpool. Meanwhile, AC Milan are also interested in signing the 26-year-old and will provide stiff competition to the Premier League duo.

It now remains to be seen if either of Manchester United and Tottenham can land Can in a possible £30 million deal. As things stand, however, AC Milan and Spurs are likely to fancy their chances more than United.

Three player Spurs should sign, Jarrod Bowen, Jack Grealish and Max Aarons, all British, all young and all hungry, exactly what Spurs need right now and they wouldn’t cost more than £100m minus what we could get for Eriksen, Wanyama and Aurier. Problem solved.
