Karim Benzema is set to return while Eder Militao will replace the injured Sergio Ramos when Real Madrid take on Sevilla on Saturday.
Real Madrid will be hoping to continue their fine run of form when Real Madrid play hosts to Sevilla at the Santiago Bernabeu on Saturday evening. And, Zinedine Zidane has greeted a mixed bag of news, as far as injuries are concerned, ahead of his side’s latest fixture.
Real Madrid boss Zidane was a little out of ideas on the attacking front in the recently concluded Spanish Super Cup, where his side were triumphant. Los Blancos were very thin in terms of squad depth and with them returning to Spain for La Liga, things ought to get better.
Karim Benzema and Gareth Bale have both returned to training, but only the French striker was named in the squad, while Luka Jovic will also shake off an injury to make it to the list of probable starters.
In another big change we may see Marcelo returning to the starting lineup, replacing Ferland Mendy, with Dani Carvajal a certain starter as the right-back. Meanwhile, Eder Militao will partner Raphael Varane at the heart of the Real Madrid defence in this crucial match against Sevilla in the absence of captain Sergio Ramos, who is out with an ankle injury.
Zidane, in his press conference, had a small segment speaking about the Real Madrid skipper, where he said, “We know the character that Sergio has. He always wants to be there and you’ll see tomorrow if he’s going to be there or not. He is an example, he is our leader, he is the reference for everyone here and he is an example to follow”.
Meanwhile, Uruguayan midfielder Federico Valverde will also miss out against Sevilla after being sent off in the Spanish Super Cup final. In his absence, Zidane may opt for the conventional 4-3-3, with Thibaut Courtois continuing between the sticks.
In midfield, Casemiro and Toni Kroos remain the mainstays, while Luka Modric will complete the trifecta in the absence of Valverde. Upfront in attack, Karim Benzema is likely to lead the line for Real Madrid, with Brazilian youngster Rodrygo Goes and Isco providing the width.
