Manchester United are reportedly closing in on the signing of Portuguese midfielder Bruno Fernandes after agreeing personal terms with the Sporting Lisbon star.

As per a report from The Telegraph, Manchester United are a step closer to signing priority transfer target Bruno Fernandes as they have reached an agreement over personal terms with the Portuguese international.

It is no secret that Manchester United are craving for a creative midfielder in the side, having struggled to break down teams in the ongoing season. The Red Devils have suffered due to Paul Pogba’s injury problems and with the Frenchman strongly linked to an exit from the club, in the summer if not now, a new midfielder is understandably high on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s list.

And Bruno Fernandes has once again emerged as the top candidate for Manchester United. The Portuguese superstar was on the club’s radar all summer, but a deal failed to materialize back then. However, the Red Devils have since rekindled their interest in him as they look to address the creativity problems that have hampered them this term.

Fernandes became one of the most coveted midfielders in Europe after a sensational 2018-19 campaign that saw him score 32 goals and set up 18 more in 53 matches in all competitions. The 25-year-old has carried on in the same vein of form this time as well, already netting 15 goals in 25 appearances while assisting 13 more.

Considering the form and the capabilities that Fernandes has showed over the past eighteen months or so, it makes perfect sense that Manchester United would want to sign him to sort out their problems in the final third. To that end, they were understood to have been in talks with Sporting Lisbon to hash out a deal at the earliest.

Fernandes and his agent have been dropping hints on social media over a possible transfer to Manchester United. And as per latest reports, the 25-year-old is believed to have agreed personal terms with the Red Devils and the transfer is now subject to the clubs agreeing on a transfer fee.

The report states that Sporting Lisbon were demanding £68 million for Fernandes, while Manchester United were willing to offer only £50 million, although the Red Devils were prepared to offer a player – either Marcos Rojo or Joel Pereira – in exchange. Super agent Jorge Mendes, who was seen at Old Trafford on Wednesday, is trying to facilitate the deal.

As things stand, Fernandes is expected to play for Sporting when they take on Benfica on Friday. However, with personal terms already agreed, a transfer to Manchester United should be finalized as soon as a transfer fee is agreed upon.
