Manchester United youngster Tahith Chong could reportedly on his way to Serie A giants Inter Milan when his contract expires at the end of the season.

As per a report from the Daily Mirror, which cites reputed journalist Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United academy ace Tahith Chong could be closing in on a summer switch to Inter Milan, after his agent was pictured meeting with the representatives of the Serie A heavyweights.

Chong has been heralded as one of the finest prospects to have come through the youth ranks at Manchester United in recent years. However, the youngster hasn’t been able to translate the potential onto the first-team scenes, whenever he has been given an opportunity by manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Manchester United though retain faith in the youngster, which is why they find themselves in a place of bother as Chong’s contract is set to expire at the end of the season. There have been talks held with the 20-year-old’s representatives over the possibility of a new deal, but no real progress has been achieved.

Amidst all this, Juventus had expressed serious interest in snapping up Chong on a free transfer at the end of the season. To that end, the Bianconeri have reportedly tabled a contract offer worth £35,000-a-week with an additional £2 million signing-on bonus.

However, as per latest reports, Juventus have competition in their pursuit of the Manchester United starlet as Inter Milan have also thrown their hat in the ring to try and secure Chong’s signing. In fact, the Nerazzurri might have taken a step ahead of their Serie A rivals, as Fabrizio Romano reports that club officials have already held talks with Chong’s agent.

Chong’s representative Erkan Alkan was pictured in Milan meeting with officials from Inter, fueling speculation that he could very well be on his way to Italy before the start of the next season.

This comes as a blow for Manchester United, who seem to have failed to convince Chong that he has a future at Old Trafford, despite Solskjaer having words with him personally about the situation. Juventus, too, will not be pleased with the developments, having been interested in the 20-year-old for quite some time only to see him potentially join their direct rivals.

As things stand, it does seem like Chong is unhappy with the amount of first-team football he is playing and has his heart set on a move away from Manchester United. It will be interesting to be see if the Red Devils are able to persuade him to stay put and if not, whether he ends up signing for Juventus or Inter.
