Manchester United are reportedly interested in Fabian Ruiz and seem to have joined other European bigwigs in pursuit of the Napoli midfielder.

According to Daily Star, Fabian Ruiz is on the Manchester United radar for the January transfer window. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is looking to add to his options in midfield and seems to have added the Spaniard to his list of potential targets in January. The Napoli midfielder is also drawing interest from Manchester City, Real Madrid and Barcelona among other European bigwigs.

Fabian Ruiz started gaining recognition for his ability and drawing interest from big clubs during his time at Real Betis. But, his career has really taken off since his move from Real Betis to Napoli. The Spaniard has been one of the key men for Napoli since joining and has been one of the first names on the team sheet at Naples when fit and available.

The 23-year-old has featured 16 times for Napoli in Serie A this season and has played every minute of the club’s Champions League campaign so far, with a goal and two assists to show for his efforts. Besides the numbers, though, Ruiz’s passing ability and vision in midfield is a rare find and is one of the major reasons clubs like Manchester United are pursuing him.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has seen his attacking force revel to an extent under him and the defence has become significantly more stable after the addition of Harry Maguire and Aaron Wan-Bissaka. But, the pressing concern is the midfield area, especially now, with Paul Pogba and Scott McTominay both out injured.

Fred is the only one apart from the two mentioned above who has managed to impress this season, with Nemanja Matic a shadow of his former self. Andreas Pereira is too streaky to be a starter while James Garner and Dylan Levitt lack the experience to be thrown into the thick of things on a regular basis.

Midfield is a priority area for any potential moves in January for Manchester United and Ruiz’s name seems to have been added to the list of probable arrivals. The midfielder though, is also being chased by Barcelona, Real Madrid and Manchester City, all of whom are in a better position to compete for trophies right now and can offer the 23-year-old Champions League football, which United currently cannot.

Ruiz seems to be valued as high as £150 million by Napoli as per the report. But, with no release clause, Manchester United could test the waters with a bid around half the touted amount. Fabian Ruiz would surely upgrade United’s creative arsenal and give Solskjaer’s squad a boost in midfield.
