Jesse Lingard could return to the starting XI as Manchester United take on Everton in the Premier League on Sunday noon.

Manchester United will be aiming to register their fourth consecutive win across all competitions when they play hosts to Duncan Ferguson’s Everton outfit at Old Trafford this weekend. And manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has no fresh injury concerns heading into the clash against the Toffees.

The Norwegian provided an update on the conditions of Paul Pogba, Eric Bailly and Timothy Fosu-Mensah after Manchester United’s midweek win against AZ Alkmaar in the Europa League. “Next week, Eric [Bailly] will start training, Tim [Fosu-Mensah] will start training, Paul will probably start training with us next week properly. So let’s see,” he said.

Having rung in the changes for the Europa League clash, Solskjaer is expected to recall his regulars to the starting XI against Everton. David de Gea ought to return in the Manchester United goal after being rested against AZ. Harry Maguire will be one of the two players to be retained from the midweek clash, with Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Victor Lindelof and Luke Shaw all set to start in defence.

The fit-again Nemanja Matic started the European encounter on Thursday alongside James Garner in the middle of the park. But, the duo is expected to make way for the partnership of Scott McTominay and Fred, who had been integral in Manchester United’s wins over Tottenham and Manchester City.

Jesse Lingard missed training this week and the AZ game due to a knock he picked up in the Manchester derby. However, Solskjaer sounded hopeful that the England international will be available for selection on Sunday noon. “I’m not sure about Jesse, but I hope [he can feature],” Solskjaer said in his post-match presser after the midweek clash.

“He wasn’t training today, but we’ll check him on Saturday probably. He’s really come good now; he’s been fit, he’s been training well, so we hope so.” Should Lingard be passed fit, he would be the automatic pick in the No. 10 role for Manchester United. If the Englishman isn’t ready, either of Juan Mata or Andreas Pereira could get the nod against the Toffees.

Anthony Martial will be the second player to hold on to his place from the midweek game. The Frenchman will start in the centre-forward role for Manchester United. Daniel James and Marcus Rashford, both of whom weren’t involved on Thursday, ought to return on the flanks. Mason Greenwood drops to the bench despite scoring a brace against AZ.

Manchester United Predicted XI: de Gea; Wan-Bissaka, Lindelof, Maguire, Shaw; Fred, McTominay; James, Lingard, Rashford; Martial
